– Name, title, and organization

Shelby Sauer, SRTS TAP, Commute Options

– What made you want to work in the SRTS TAP program?

I have always valued spending time outdoors because I believe it is both physically and mentally beneficial. Having the opportunity to assist SRTS Coordinators by providing resources for Walk+Roll events and hosting educational webinars ultimately results in kids getting outside. Not to mention the positive environmental impact walking, biking, and rolling to and from school has. When you start small healthy habits at a young age, you are more likely to carry them through adulthood. Helping support the SRTS mission and being of assistance is what made me want to become an SRTS TAP.

– What are you most excited about?

I am most excited about hosting Regional Hub meetings to learn how I can support SRTS Coordinators.

– Do you have any favorite memories of walking or rolling to school?

In elementary school, I remember walking and rolling events in which I would participate. My favorite memories are of me and my friends being dropped off by our parents a couple of blocks from school. My friends and I would then walk to school and say “hi” to our principal, who always stood at the entrance to greet us. As I got older, I would carpool with my friends. Once I got my driver’s license in High School, I looked forward to driving my sister to school while we played pop music on the radio.
