Last week, the Alta SRTS team had the opportunity to venture out of the office and create a brand-new traffic garden at Lincoln Elementary in Corvallis, OR. This traffic garden at Lincoln Elementary is part of the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Traffic Garden Pilot Program.
What is a traffic garden? Think of it as a mini city built for kids: painted streets, crosswalks, stop signs, and bike lanes where young riders can learn the rules of the road in a fun and safe way.
These spaces aren’t just about safety—they’re about joy, confidence, and sparking a lifelong love of walking and biking. A huge shoutout to everyone who helped paint, plan, and dream this garden into reality: Sam Alig, Jill (Statz) Roszel, Maura Paxton, Aleksei Hnastchenko, P.E., Nora Stoelting, and Fionnuala Quinn as well as Amy Lesan and Cassie Minot with Corvallis School District 509J
Is your community hungry for safe spaces for kids to learn traffic safety skills? Consider a traffic garden!
