This month, the Quality Bicycle Company announced that Anson’s Bike Buddies in Hood River received a coveted grant to fund bike repair to underserved community members.

In partnership with Hood River School District’s Safe Routes to School program, this grant will help to refurbish bikes that can be given away for free to children and caregivers, with an emphasis on serving vulnerable populations.

SRTS Coordinator Megan Ramey explained the importance of this grant: “Anson’s Bike Buddies primarily donates bikes to students, kindergartners through high schoolers, through the Safe Routes to School on-bike education curriculum at 8 schools in Hood River County School District. The District is 42% Latino, 7% other BIPOC and 61% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch. These students and their caregivers are the recipients of the bike donations. This grant for $4000 of in-kind bike parts will enable us to repair 200 bikes for this vulnerable population in need.”

Congratulations to Anson’s Bike Buddies and Hood River School District on getting this great grant, and thank you for all the work you do to support your community!
